What Is Supported Living?
At its core, Supported Living is about one thing: choice.
Choice in where you live, who shares your space, and how you spend your days. It’s the belief that everyone deserves a home that feels truly their own and the support to make that possible.
Supported Living is more than a service model. It’s a relational, values-based way of supporting people in homes they choose and control. At its heart is the belief that everyone deserves a place where they are welcome, comfortable, and in charge of their own front door.
Historically, people with disabilities were often placed in congregate “facilities”—a practice that has unfortunately existed for centuries and separated people from true home and community. CLC’s work is grounded in a different belief: that having a home of one’s own is a human right. We believe individuals have the right to control their own lives, to choose where and with whom they live, and to direct how they want to be supported. In Supported Living, people sign their own lease or own their own home. Their home is theirs. It is not owned or controlled by CLC. If they choose to change service providers, the agency may change, but the person remains in their home.
“Be grateful for the home you have, knowing that at this moment, all you have is all you need.”
At CLC, Supported Living isn’t a program; it’s a partnership. We walk alongside people as they build the routines, skills, and connections that make daily life work. For one person, that might mean organizing medications or planning meals. For another, it could be navigating transportation, managing appointments, or simply having someone nearby who listens and encourages.
The key is that support is never one-size-fits-all. It flexes and adapts around each person’s goals, schedule, and preferences. And it’s never about doing things for someone, but always with them. Building confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging along the way.
Supported Living recognizes that with the right support, people can thrive in the places they choose to call home. It’s a commitment to walking alongside people as they curate their own routines, relationships, and sense of belonging.
